Generosity

Sometimes when I view the world, all I can see is the dark side of humanity and how everyone is greedy and just out to better their own positions and not look out for others. But in the past month since the death of my father, I have seen the best in people here at Notre Dame and back home. Tonight was probably one of the most generous acts so far.

Tonight, the AR of my hall gave me an envelope that had $750 in it that was from the hall staff. $750. I can not believe that people got that sum of money together and generously gave it to my mother and I. When I think about it, an act like this really sums up what Notre Dame is all about and what it strives to be. Notre Dame is a community but most importantly it is a family. The support system here is absolutely amazing and an act like this serves to reinforce that belief.

My mother and I have been struggling financially. It seems that every time we think that we may be able to escape, something big pops up. Whether it be extra fees we weren't aware of, or other setbacks, it has not been an easy process to digest at all. But donations like these and the fact that we know of all the support we have, it gives us hope.

Genuine hope and belief that it will all be ok.
